I just finished skimming through a book by Anita Brookner, a british author that I admire. She has a lyrical style and her tales remind me of some british movies that I had seen in the sixties. They were very introspective , dealing with peoples' feelings and relationships or lack of relationships. I could empathize with some of the characters actions since I have some of the same failings myself. Now that I am in what perhaps could be the final decade of my life I can look back and ask myself, did I do the the best that I could possibly do? Did I meet the expectations of those around me? I think that I would have to answer no , I did not. All that I did, in my opinion, was just hang and fantasize about what could have been.

This is my younger brother Larry Charles who died yesterday at the age of 58. He had a major stroke from which he never recovered. He had , in my opinion, a sad life because he had the potential to be successful in life but he never had the nurturing, love and encouragement that a person needs to have a happy life. So sad.

I just had to try the roasted chestnuts since I've heard the Xmas songs featuring chestnuts roasting on an open fire. They are not crunchy like a walnut but mealy in texture and slightly sweet in taste. I paid $3.00 for a small bag of at least a dozen. They sell them on the street corners of NYC.

Well, it looks as though we got a break from the cold weather for which I am thankful because when it's cold and miserable outside I just want to snuggle under the covers and not do anything.I always say at the beginning of winter that I wish I could hibernate till spring.
I used to look forward to the first snow of the winter when I was a kid but once I was a grown-up and driving I could definitely do without snow. I hate wearing winter boots and heavy coats.

I still feel a bit under the weather from my trip. New York is an expensive city so the easiest and cheapest way for most people to make a trip is to do the one day option which means riding all night on the bus coming and going. I can never sleep on the bus so I had a major sleep deficit which has contributed to my feeling of illness.
I remember trips that I took in the past to NYC which were affordable. I could window shop, see sights, take in Broadway shows-so much fun. I'm glad that I made the effort when I did because it's not as doable now. Bummer.

This is one of the many store windows that I saw in NYC . I am starting to feel better now which is good because I go in to work tonight. I wish that I could have taken the photos that I wanted but I was so exhausted that I didn't have the strength to do any more than what I did do. I'll try to go back again another year but this time I would like to stay a few days so that I wouldn't feel so rushed an trying to cram so many things into a short span of time.

This is me getting ready to start exploring the city. I'm not as young as I once was and I wore myself out walking around, plus the weather wasn't good. It started off cold and clear then it started to rain which put the kabosh on my picture taking for the rest of the day. I went back to Grand Central Station and hung out till time to get back on the bus. I think that I would like to repeat the trip another year with hopes of better weather.

I have a three day weekend coming up and I am going to New York City. I kept checking the forecasts and it looks to be lousy weather for it, but oh, well, it's December. I had always wanted to see Manhattan at Xmas time, especially the store windows because we don't have anything like that here .I won't buy anything, just take photos:)

What a bummer. I had a number of post on my other blog but I added something that I couldn't get rid of. It kept blocking my new posts so that I couldn't read them. I had ninety posts. Oh well, they were important only to me and I can go forward from here.
I had problems with my vision over the week end. It felt like something was in my eye and I had trouble focusing. I went to the Cole Eye Clinic yesterday straight from work with the hope that I could be seen right away. I was fortunate in that they had a first morning appointment available. They didn't see much change in my vision since I had been there in June but they did find a small cut in my eye which was causing some irritation to my eye. They prescribed antibiotic eye drops to used four times a day. My sight seems to be somewhat better today.

Just saw the three day weather forecast and we are in for some much colder weather-even some snow flurries are possible. Bummer, because I am on vacation right now and I would appreciate some nice weather. I thought that I would be able to stain and seal my sundeck. But it has been either raining or to cold or I didn't feel up to it.

whazup? I'm watching the financial channel,CNBC, just to see what they have to say about the state of our economy. Just as there was debate over whether or not we were in a recession there is debate over whether or not the recession has ended. The stock market is used as a barometer on the economy but that is only a small part of the overall situation. The dollar is sinking against other currencies and some countries are moving away from the dollar as a reserve currency. Some of the analysts ask the question-where are they going to go? No one else has the amount of currency to replace the dollar. I feel that the days of dollar supremacy are over but will replace it is anyones guess. The United States holds a unique place in world power and history. I wish that I could come back a hundred or a hundred and fifty years from now to see the state of the world.

Hi, I just uploaded a new template for my blog. It seems as though I lose some of the options that i had with the generic template. But I will keep trying. I have looked at some blogs that are so gorgeous that I don't read them I just look at the overall layout.
